We arrived on Friday afternoon to deposit our stock on the stand prior to the show commencing and to set up camp early on. Weather perfect at this stage! We quickly viewed the lots available in the auction and were impressed with the Daffys and the large coffin poison, however, one or two other items had significant repairs that were missing from the catalogued descriptions. Some of the competition entries had set up and were of a high standard, particularly John Aults creams and Roger Pellows radio active crown perfumery bottle!
Saturday was a great day for sales and I even managed to espie a bargain Goffes bulb neck hybrid for £45 quid that was passed on to Ralph. If i hadnt had a sore head from the night previous i would have made a nice profit on it but Ralphs secured some good digs for us in the past so it was pay back time.
Plenty of stalls provided cheap sellable items but few displayed the quality all were seeking and when it did show it commanded a hefty price that proves to me quality will always hold its price and will always be an investment. Codds and poisons seem to fetch less than they did 25 years ago and hardly seem worth cleaning?
The weather was poor for the weekend but didnt dampen the emphusiasm or atmosphere.
Phil managed to extract my May Davis cobalt cylinder plus one or two other minerals that I decided to part with. He also picked up a couple of rare London minerals from Andy Yallops stall.
Ivan secured the huge Coffin poison from the auction with Wayne picking up a pre- arranged 6oz amber globe sykes mcvay from an outside stool. Sales were very strong all weekend and a few bargains secured from the boot sale made our weekend.
All too soon it was over and we will save our stock until next year for another not to be missed show.
